Artist Spotlight - Ethan Espey

Meet our April 2023 Artist Spotlight, Ethan Espey. Ethan is a musician with a positive attitude who can play drums, guitar, bass, and can sing. He was born and raised in Texas but moved 8 years ago to the Lyme School District, of which he is currently a senior.

During his interview, our president, Joe, recalled seeing him perform as Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. That show premiered the week before schools were shut down due to the pandemic, but Ethan was fortunate that their hard work was able to be seen by a live audience.

Ethan’s talents were developed without much formal instruction. He was given a Fender Stratacaster electric guitar on his 10th birthday and had trouble putting it down. When he was around 13 years old, he started dabbling in music production which encouraged him to pick up other instruments. Eventually, Ethan joined the Dexter-based metal band, Cow Calls, as a drummer. As a former member of that band, Ethan is aiming to focus on his own music. Currently he is working on an acoustic album that will deal with a few styles, including hip hop.

It was Ethan’s father that introduced him to some of his most influential bands, such as Corn and Slipknot. The first concert he attended was Slipknot and it left him with many positive memories. Ethan recounted that these bands, “sing their heart out about their pain.”

Be sure to follow Ethan to see what he’s up to and to be kept abreast of his album release.
