Artist Spotlight - Jake Desormo
At 33, Jake Desormo, our April Artist Spotlight, carries a musical legacy within his family. Growing up in the Watertown area, surrounded by the melodies of his father Scott and older brother Brent, it was almost inevitable that Jake would find his rhythm in music. It all began in church, where he first picked up the bass, setting the stage for his musical odyssey.
Jake's passion for the bass runs deep. He always wanted to play it, but as life often does, other responsibilities took over, leaving his bass-playing dreams on the back burner. He describes himself humorously as a "bassist who has to play guitar and sing," a testament to his versatility and adaptability in the music scene.
His musical journey has taken him through various genres, from country rock with Ransom, alongside Scott and Brent, to his solo endeavors where he delves into both country and rock, often blending the two seamlessly. With projects like Desorder, a hard rock band, Jake reminisces nostalgically about the thrill of playing live gigs, a feeling he now misses.
Desormo's approach to songwriting is as organic as it gets. He describes his creative process as starting with a blank canvas, never knowing where the music will lead him. This spontaneity reflects his deep-seated passion for music, driving him forward as a full-time musician since July 2022.
For Jake, the transition to full-time musicianship wasn't without its challenges. After spending 11 years at NY Air Brake, he took the leap of faith, leaving behind the security of a stable job to pursue his musical dreams. It was a bold move, one that he considers the best decision he's ever made.
Recording and producing his music has been a labor of love. From recording at home to collaborating with producers like Danny Allen and Bryant Pignone, Jake's dedication to his craft shines through. Despite his reluctance to listen to himself at times, he pushes forward, driven by his passion for creating music.
As he looks to the future, Jake has his sights set on new horizons. With over 100 gigs already booked for the year, including a performance at the State Fair, he's eager to take his music to the next level. With dreams of touring on the horizon and a summer country release in the works, Jake Desormo's musical journey continues to unfold, fueled by his unwavering dedication to doing what he loves.
