Artist Spotlight - Brittany Cean
It is our pleasure to introduce our November Artist Spotlight, Brittany Cean. You may have already seen and heard her perform low-key, feel good acoustic music at local establishments and for local events in the North Country. Brittany has been entrancing audiences with her sweet singing and acoustic guitar for 14 years. Encouraged by her musician mother, Brittany started learning cowboy chords and taking guitar lessons at Black River Music in 2002. Influenced by Jewel and Indigo Girls, she wanted to learn guitar so that she would have something to accompany her voice.
Brittany is currently known to many local musicians as the music act booker at Alexandria Bay’s Riveredge Resort. Though she has only been doing this for a short period of time, Riveredge Resort has had the pleasure of hosting many diverse talents. “It’s been fun because I can pull in people that I really like…and that I’m comfortable working with”, said Ms. Cean. She has also been introduced to several musicians that she would not have otherwise known.
When she’s not playing music, she’s substitute teaching. But she can also be found supporting other artists when she can. Also, Brittany is not always a solo act. From time to time she will also play with the acoustic cover band, Beaver Nickel, which often consisted of Kelsey Fraser, Scott Graveline, and Alex Soluri. She also has written her own music, which she has performed alongside fellow songwriters Ryan Grant and Phil (Crush) Dumond, at a story-telling event in Watertown. Those songs and information on where to find Brittany are linked below.
