Artist Spotlight - Madi Yauchler

HarmoNNY is thrilled to announce our first Artist Spotlight of 2022, Madi Yauchler, a talented, young, versatile dancer. She does every type of dance you can think of including tap, ballet, hip-hop, jazz, contemporary, modern and clog.

Madi started dancing thirteen years ago and since then, the dance studio has been her second home. She is a senior at Watertown High School and takes dance lessons at Rhonda’s FooteWorks in Watertown. She first became interested in dance through musicals. She remembers watching the dance numbers and thinking “I want to do that. I can’t really sing, but I can do that.” Her favorite musical is Mama Mia.

Ms. Yauchler shared that her favorite type of dance is tap. One of her first dance solos was a tap number so it holds a special place in her heart. Additionally, many dance competitions focus on contemporary, lyrical or ballet styles, so she likes to “use [her] skills to push forward and try to be the best [she] can be in the [tap] genre.” She also enjoys contemporary dance as this is an expressive dance where you get to move your body in a way that tells a story.

Following high school, Madi plans to go to college for digital marketing. She has been accepted into SUNY Old Westbury, just outside of New York City. She hopes to take dance classes in the city and bring back what she learns to Rhonda’s FooteWorks where she is currently teaching dance classes to various age groups. Madi shared that she enjoys teaching because she loves to share her expertise and help inspire other young dancers.

Madi encourages anyone that is considering taking dance to “take the risk. It could be scary, and you are putting yourself out there into something you’re not familiar with, but it gets you to push past a boundary that you didn’t really think you had.” Rhonda’s FooteWorks hosts open shows and walk-in classes so that interested students can find out what dance is all about.
